A tough night

Gerd Kanter was fourth and Märt Israel ninth in the discus final last night here in the EC in Barcelona. That was under the expectations we had before the meet and after the qualification.

Gerd could not do what he was supposed to do technically and was big time over rotated in every throw in the warm up as well as the meet both in qualification and the final. After a great training camp where he was getting this together he got back to the problems he has been struggling with earlier in the season and had to settle for throwing only 66.20m.

Märt Israel made the final for the first time that is of course positive and we give him all credit for that. But he could not follow up on his great qualification and had to be satisfied with a throw of 62.59m. All his preparation for the meet was very good and he was ready but something made it so this night that it did not go.

We go on and try to learn from this for the WC next year.
