Niklas Swedish Champion

Niklas Arrhenius had a great meet today in shot put at the Swedish Championships in Stockholm. Niklas won the meet and put the shot 18.90m.

Niklas competed for the first time ever in Sweden with the rotational technique today. His PR indoors is 1991m and outdoors 18.88m. For the last few years he has been throwing with glide technique but is back now throwing again with the spin.

Niklas looked very good today. Relaxed and technique was ok. He started out with a security throw on 17.41m and took the lead from round one. Then he did 18.66m in the second round and in the third round he did 18.90m. The three last rounds he was trying to speed up and did not hit the positions as good and fouled the throws.

This meet was very positive for Niklas. First of all he won the meet, then he looked good and relaxed during the first three rounds. The only thing that could have been better was that he could have been able to gas on as he was trying to and get even a bigger throw in the last three rounds.

Niklas did 18.12m in his first meet last week so this was a big increase and close to 19m. We had said that between 60 feet that 18.29m and 19.00m indoors would be good and he did that today. After our training sessions in Växjö during the week I said I would be happy with 18.50-19.00m and he did 18.90m, so very good.

The good thing about this is that there is much more to come from Niklas in the shot put. I am sure he will throw closer to 20m than 19m this summer. And he could easily qualify in both shot and discus for the European Championships in Barcelona.

This was a good trip for Niklas to Sweden but he is going back to USA early in the morning.

He will meet with the group on our training camp in San Diego in April again.
