Gerd Kanter
Gerd Kanter qualified in his first throw this morning at the EC in Barcelona with a throw of 65.43m. Märt Israel qualified in his second throw with a throw of 63.99m after a first throw of 63.27m that would have been enough anyway. This was the first time for Märt to make a big championship final.
The discus throwers are all in the same group tomorrow, the earlier one here at the EC in Barcelona.
The shot putters started out this morning and did not do well. Niklas Arrhenius was though better and had 18.93m in the first throw that was a good opener. Then he could not follow it up in the two remaining throws and fouled both.
Helga Margrét Þorsteinsdóttir from Iceland won the bronze medal at the World Junior Championship in Canada last week in the heptathlon. This is the first medal ever won for my little country in the WJC.

Märt Israel had another great meet tonight when he participated in the Diamond League Meet in Gateshead in Great Britain. 65.46m was the distance that Märt had today. In Sollentuna he had 65.44m and 66.31m in Viljandi as well as 64.04m in Bottnaryd. Märt has taken the step upwards from being a 62-63m guy to being a 64-65m guy. That is a huge difference and very good for Märt and his career.
Yesterday
Niklas Arrhenius had a very good day today at the annual International Throwing Meet in Bottnaryd, Sweden. Gerd Kanter threw 67.69m and got second in the Dimond League meet in Rome tonight. This result for Gerd is good and his second place also.
Meigo Tammsaar was only half a meter from his best and Priidu Niit one and a half from his best last night in a meet in Tallinn.
Märt
Navdeep Dhaliwal had 48.52m yesterday in a meet in
Kim Christensen probably competed in his biggest meet ever in his career on Friday when he was invited to compete in Bislett Games in Oslo that is a IAAF Diamond League event.
Yesterday we had a good day here in Estonia with a great practice for Gerd in Rakvere in the morning and then another practice with Märt and Priidu in Tallinn later on in the afternoon.
In the Kuldliga meet in
Märt Israel did well yesterday in Hengelo. His result 62.29m was nothing superb but maybe just fine in relation to the cold and rain that the throwers had to deal with. But, the big thing for Märt was to beat Virgilius Alekna for the first time. Märt was 4th in the meet and it was very good.
Priidu Niit
Gerd Kanter threw 68.61m in Shanghai DL this weekend. It is a good start for the European Season for Gerd after World Leading 71.45m in San Diego some weeks ago.
Märt

Last night the Estonian Junior group of 12 athletes and 2 coaches came by our house and had a good meal and played games and relaxed a bit after many hard training sessions.
Kim Christensen did fine this weekend when he competed for his club Sparta in the Club Championships in Denmark. 18.90m for Kim is good right after coming from S.D. in USA with lots of tireness in the body, jetlag and after a long trip.

There has been much less emphasis on lifting heavy on this camp than sometimes before because of different reasons fo each athlete. Still, there have been some big lifts performed.
Lately things have been developing very good for most of the group members on throwing. Gerd is throwing really well and everything very stable and good. Nav has been throwing really well and better than ever before she hurts herself.
During this training camp here in San Diego we have had ups and downs. Mostly things have been going well and some very positive. Still, we have had two injuries, not big ones but tricky ones.
Today Märt had a great technical workout in the morning and we worked on his turn on the right foot in the middle of the circle. Then tonight he lifted 3x220kg in Back Squats like nothing.
Niklas Arrhenius has been here with us on the training camp and is working hard on coming back from his foot injury that bothered him last year and made him miss the whole season.

Nick Petersen hurt himself a little some weeks ago and we thought it was nothing when it happened. But, Nick has been struggling with it now for some time or over a month.
Nav is training hard in Birmingham now and getting ready for San Diego camp. The goal for her was to get stronger before she would come to USA so she could concentrate on throwing over there.
For the 7th year in a row we are off to San Diego, or rather Chula Vista in California, USA. It is the best place on earth to train and that is the reason we go there. Great facilities, great weather, great atmosphere etc.
Uno Ojand is a coach that has been working hard in Tallinn, Estonia in association with Global Throwing and myself for years.
Märt
Omar El Ghazaly
Niklas Arrhenius that has been struggling with a foot injury for a long time is slowly coming back both in the Discus Throw and the Shot Put. As told before Niklas will throw both events this year.

The Danes, Kim, Nick and Lasse had a good session this morning. Nick was working on technique and tried hard to control his power and get feeling for it instead of just powering it out there. It worked good. Nick will never lack power, he just needs to control it.
Nick Petersen, “The Beast” loves one exercise and that is the deadlift.
To throw far in shot put you really do not need to lift to heavy in deadlift as we use it mostly just to get stronger in the back. But, twice a year Nick gets the opportunity to go for it if he can hold his technique within the frame.
Gerd did one of his heavy sessions today on this camp. But it ended up being very light. Here you see how heavy weights can look very light. Gerd is right on track in the weightroom in relation to the period we are in.
Märt Israel that is recovering after his foot injury is doing really good. In the middle of January he got a green light from his doctor and physical therapist to start to lift and try to throw again.
Kim Christensen has really gotten stronger and bigger for the last few weeks. He needed that as the big 20m are waiting on him and I do not know many small weak guys that have put the shot over 20m.
Gerd Kanter had a good session today. The conditions were very tough as there was a big left, tail wind that shifted so it was hard to deal with. Gerd had some very good throws and most of them were around 66m.
When we throw far in this group we call it Slam Sessions. Navdeep tried today to do it but was tired and it did not worked out even if she had a good technique. She eneded up with only 48m but there is much there on a good day.

Omar El Ghazaly did a great training session this morning. We worked in the sprint as well the finish in his throw and it worked out better than ever.
Saturday Anders told me he felt like doing some deadlifts and I thought it might be wise not to do them from the floor but instead do them from right below the knee.
Yesterday we had a good day agin even if it rained. We got in a very good session with Gerd in the morning with 2.5kg Denfi Tool. 73.19m was the distance with none reverse, it is as far as he has ever thrown. Then when he started to throw with reverse he did not hit it as well and lacked some energy. Still a great session for Gerd.
Navdeep Dhaliwal had her best day today at the camp here in S-Africa. Today she threw the Denfi Tool better than ever before and also farther.

Axel Härstedt competed well in the Swedish Championships this weekend. He threw 54.36m and got fourth place. We were hoping for 55+ but this time it was a little less. After his back strain last week Axel should be happy with this performance.

Raigo and Nick started the day in the Shot Put. Raigo had a decent meet with a 19.09m throw. He could not follow up on a good practice he did during the week. But still over 19m and that keeps his average up. But Raigo can much more.
